Techno Decomposition World opens with a very strong orchestral intro with prominently featured violin which explodes into a guitar symphony - heavy and rich. This is The Fusion Between A.I. and Humanity. Great title, great intro in a day and age when intros are almost considered to be mandatory and are mostly incredibly lame. This one ranks up there with Helloween's Deliberately Limited Preliminary Prelude Period in Z. It's only about two minutes long, but those are two grand minutes.
The title track follows with aggressive drums and fast guitars. I am not crazy about death vocals... especially screeching growls, so on first listen as soon as the "singing" commenced, I felt it detracted from the instrumentation. Upon further listen I was able to enjoy the music and sorta ignore the vocals. On the third try I found myself actually loving the whole package.
The musicianship sounds top notch to my ears for such a young band. The two lead guitars play together very well. Many of the solos are a thowback to the 80's. Granted, there are the occasional hiccups when the instruments are out of synch for a moment, but those are rare and with time the playing will improve. After all, the band had played together for about a year when the demo was released. Some of the vocals are also a throwback to the 80's and reminiscent of Death Heaven countrymen Bulldozer. So is the intro to Shadows in Darkness. Very tight, very professional overall sound. Excellent for a demo. Good production courtesy of singer/guitarist Andrea, who - per the promo materials - was 18 at the time.
At this early stage of their career the guys from Death Heaven are not afraid to tackle the epics. Two songs clock in at near or over 10 minutes! Those are well-composed with sensible transitions and varied melodies. Most songs are over 6 minutes. The quality of those shows direction and maturity.
And to think that a few short months ago I was complaining that heavier Italian bands are few and far between... Do give a listen to the tracks on the band's home page (linked here for your convenience). Death Heaven is worth your time. The future is bright for these guys. For a first demo this is exceptional! Best of luck to Death Heaven with the new material and official release! May they stick around for years to come.
